I like learning about Japan and especially its wise tradition to connect with nature.
Momijigari is the Japanese word for looking for the red autumn leaves. It invites us to wrap ourselves warm and cosy and walk outside in search of the most beautiful and expressive red leaves. You may also want to take your camera or sketchbook and watercolours…Ultimately don’t forget the flask with your favourite warm drink.
Head towards the nearest park, or plan a special trip to a botanical garden. Kew Gardens and RHS Wisley Garden are my absolute favourites.
As it is also considered in Japan a season for both artists and art enthusiasts to appreciate art and encounter artistic inspiration, you may wish to collect some leaves and make your own dry-leaves collage or beautiful bouquet.
Whatever idea you embrace, take your time, let the colours come to you, together with all smells and textures. October is the best time for your own Momijigari experience!
